The critics agree...two thumbs down for teething pain.
Why does this have to be such a production? They are born without teeth (usually) and they come in sometime later. I get that. But why does it have to be SO painful? Geesh! Tylenol every four hours, cold things to chew, suck on or drink, Orajel for his gums and ear plugs for me. The screaming and crying is ridiculous, and I feel SO bad that my efforts at pain relief are not enough to make him happy. So Isaac's first set of teeth seemed to go by pretty well. Yes, there was Tylenol, plenty of drool and enough crying to make us all feel empathetic to him. But right after the bottom two came in began the top two, and this makes the first two seem like a cake-walk. I've been watching them daily but honestly his mood told me all I needed to know about their movement. But here is my question: as adults, do any of us remember this clearly traumatizing event in our early childhood? When those baby teeth feel out and the adult teeth replaced them, was there any pain? The latter question being the whole premise of this rant, why would the first set hurt so badly if they are so small and not even permanent? Why wouldn't it be that the adult teeth be the ones that hurt since they are the bigger ones and are permanent? I think this is such crud, mostly because I have to sit by gritting my teeth while my normally good-tempered sweetheart wails and screams, desperate for ANYTHING that will make this better. I wonder which one of us is more desperate, but I know that it's me since I am the only one that will remember this later. Lucky for him.
